Stories Carried Forward

Rivers have a way of reminding us that time is always moving forward. The water flowing through Oregon today is never quite the same as it was yesterday, yet the rivers themselves remain constant—connecting mountains to valleys, communities to one another, and generations through time.

This summer, our windows celebrate the rivers of Oregon and the stories they carry. For July, those flowing waters become a reminder of the stories we carry forward through the things we treasure most.

As this year marks the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, many of us find ourselves reflecting on history. Yet history isn’t found only in museums, photographs, or landmarks. Sometimes it lives in a ring that has been worn for generations, a pendant given to celebrate a milestone, or a gemstone waiting to begin its next chapter in a new design.

Jewelry has always been part of humanity’s story.

Long before a gemstone becomes part of a cherished piece of jewelry, it begins its own remarkable journey. Rubies, July’s birthstone, formed deep within the earth millions of years ago under extraordinary heat and pressure. Their vibrant red color has captivated civilizations across the world for centuries, appearing in royal collections, treasured heirlooms, and meaningful gifts that celebrate life’s most important moments.

But the true beauty of jewelry often extends beyond the gemstone itself.

A ring may commemorate a marriage. A pendant may celebrate a graduation. Earrings become a birthday gift remembered for decades. Over time, these pieces collect memories, becoming woven into the stories of the families who wear them.

Some of the most meaningful treasures we see have already traveled through several generations. A grandmother’s ring. A gemstone reset into a new design. An anniversary gift worn year after year. Each carries something far more valuable than precious metal or gemstones—it carries connection.

We also have the privilege of helping create tomorrow’s heirlooms. A custom-designed engagement ring, a carefully chosen sapphire, or a ruby selected to mark a special occasion may someday become part of another family’s story, passed from one generation to the next.

Throughout history, gemstones themselves have traveled remarkable journeys. Lapis lazuli crossed ancient trade routes thousands of years ago. Garnets have been discovered in jewelry from civilizations long past. Sapphires and rubies have adorned crowns, ceremonial objects, and treasured personal collections for centuries. Though styles evolve, our fascination with these gifts from the earth continues.

Like Oregon’s rivers, these stories never truly stop flowing. Each generation adds its own chapter while remaining connected to those who came before.

This July, we invite you to explore our summer displays inspired by Oregon’s rivers, featuring July’s ruby birthstone alongside gemstones that have captivated people for centuries. Whether newly chosen or lovingly passed down, every treasured piece becomes part of a story that continues to flow through time.
